Tonight We Recognize Daniel Sherrell, Winner of the Bruce Piasecki and Andrea Masters Award on Business and Society Writing
Daniel Sherrell’s book, Warmth: Coming of Age at the End of Our World is moving, emotionally rich, and hopeful. It is our modern day Walden, but better. As a result, my family’s Creative Force Foundation Inc has awarded Daniel Sherrell our Annual Book Award being presented tonight, September 24, at the 4th annual New York State Writers Institute Author and Poet ceremony to be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the University at Albany’s Campus Center West Auditorium.
The illustrious American/film writer Jay Parini will be presenting the Award, and granting our check to Daniel with two other lifelong winners.
During an interview with The Cut, Sherrell talked about his book and his work saying, “I think climate change feels overwhelming for a lot of people. The thing that I tried to do in this book was to make it so people don’t turn away from these feelings, but to hold them as real, valuable, and worthy of examination, like other strong emotions in life. This book is trying to do justice to that set of emotions by sitting with them and not shutting them into some avenue of easy despair or optimism.”
We are excited to recognize Daniel Sherrell and wish him the most distinguished multi-decade career moving forward as he addresses this most pressing issue of our day, CLIMATE CHANGE.
